The industry joins forces to develop training and facilitate recruitment in Saint-Quentin, with AGRO-COSM

7. Community involvement

Context

In the french department of Aisne, local companies are experiencing a shortage of workers in the food and cosmetics sectors. Five of them have come together to work on their recruitment and skills issues: Fruits Rouges, L'Oréal, Mondelez, Nestlé and Cpf. Located in the Saint-Quentin, Laon and Vervins areas, the companies report common difficulties in recruiting certain profiles that are in demand: packaging agents/line drivers and manufacturing agents in industry.

To overcome this imbalance between the supply of and demand for skills in the employment basin, they have joined forces within Agro-Cosm, a real training project in the region. In addition to creating jobs, this project aims to anticipate the retirement of workers in the years to come.

Objectives

  • Adapting training programs to changes in specific professions

  • To compensate for recruitment difficulties detected in the employment basin and to create jobs

  • Promote the development of companies by increasing the skills of future employees

  • Co-construct common solutions in response to the needs identified in the region

APPROACH

In order to unite the companies around a common project, a project team and a steering committee were formed by the companies with the employment partners: Pôle Emploi, CCI de l'Aisne, Maison de l'Emploi et Formation, Région Hauts-de-France and the DIRECCTE. Together, they approached the training organizations to adapt the offer.

First, the companies identified the jobs with skill shortages and the companies' expectations in terms of training, in order to highlight and analyze the gaps. It turned out that the jobs of manufacturing operator and line driver were particularly popular with companies in the Aisne, and that the workforce was underqualified for these positions.

Thus, the Agro-Cosm companies analyzed the job descriptions and the possible skill bridges, in order to jointly write the specifications for the necessary training.  They then contacted the training organizations to adapt their programs and match the supply and demand for skills in the region.

At the end of these steps, the sourcing and recruitment process was launched. A phase of pre-selection of candidates for these positions took place, after which the training courses started with the ALQUAL and AFDE organizations.
