Objectives
Streamlining the use of transportation resources under two main categories:
- freight transport (distribution of newspapers and administrative travel)
- employees' professional trips.
APPROACH
Streamlining of freight transport: Reorganization of distribution routes:- Elimination of routes in Belgium and the Paris metropolitan area; preference for the rail mode, with the TGV high-speed train for Paris.- Reorganization of scheduling and consolidation of certain routes (weekly sports on Mondays, TV inserts on Fridays and women's supplement on Saturdays), for savings estimated at 1 day of transportation. Reduction in the number of vehicles and trips:- Decrease from 12 to 4 the number of transportation services contracted to handle deliveries thanks to improved organization.- Removal of inter-site shuttle service during July 2012, a policy change equivalent to 13 routes and 2,000 kilometers per week.
Streamlining of personal transportation:- Decrease from 20 to 13 vehicles the number of vehicles participating in car-sharing. This reduction also generated a significant drop in the number of trips. - Awareness-building among Head Office staff regarding more efficient commute trips.- Geo-localization of vehicles operated in car-sharing mode and more demanding procedures implemented when placing vehicles in service.- Test conducted on the use of electric bicycles for short-distance trips.
A dual purpose of promoting sustainable development and achieving savings:- Involvement and oversight of employees- Intelligent use of new technologies in order to improve existing practices.
