Context

Decathlon is an international company created in 1976, designing and commercializing sporting goods in its 1053 stores spread out in 28 countries. The B’Twin Village is the head office for the cycling brand of the group. It gathers 850 employees on its site in the south of Lille, head office and store combined. At the beginning of 2015, the company launched its Transport Plan focused on the encouragement to practice active commuting for home-to-work travels: bicycle, scooter, rollerblades, etc.

Objectives

To spur employees to come to work by more environment-friendly transport modes
To reduce its impact on the environment

APPROACH

In order to implement this CTP, the company sent an internal questionnaire to all its employees. More than 650 employees expressed their mind about their constraints and their demands regarding this CTP

After having assembled and analyzed their answers, the company implemented many measures:

Construction of 3 garages for bicycles, locker rooms and toilets,
Financial support to buy equipment,
17 bicycles available during the day for employees,
Sale of equipment at attractive prices.

B’Twin Village also participated in the “Challenge de la Mobilité” (French challenge of active mobility) in 2015, to spur its employees to come by a mode of transport other than by car. B’Twin Village is discussing with the city hall of Lille and the “Métropole Européenne de Lille” (institution gathering the towns of Lille metropolis) to increase the frequency of buses and improve the quality of bicycle paths.

Best Practice published in 2015 for the first time and updated in 2016.

CONTRIBUTION TO COMPANY PERFORMANCE

The company won the 1st place among the companies counting more than 500 employees in the category “Active Mode”
In 2015, Décathlon won the 4th place among the companies where it feels good to live in the French top “Best Place to Work”

Benefits

60% of employees took part in the “Challenge de la Mobilité” in the Hauts-de-France Region
Quechua’s employees also took part in the “Challenge de la Mobilité” in the Rhônes-Alpes Region and won the prize in the category “rural little town and territory” with a participation rate amounting to 92%
