Context

The Nord Pas-de-Calais Regional Council, in order to set an example, has decided to put into practice sustainable development principles.

The new regional headquarters building has made it easier to implement a company travel plan. It first concerned house-work trips, then progressively business trips.

Objectives

Promote alternative kind of transportations rather than individual car use.

APPROACH

1- Public transportation season ticket plans for house-work commutes refunded at 75% of its value (more than 900 regional agents are concerned)

2- Consciousness-raising campaigns and information on the different means of transportation to access the head office with establishment of accessibility sheets.

3- Implementation of new bike and motorbike stations for visitors and employees.

4- Acquisition of 28 bikes and a larger bike park with the possibility to rent them (20 available) via the association Ch’ti velos.

5- Encouraging the use of urban public transportation for professional trips (public transportation tickets are available at each Department’s office: 6100 tickets have been used in 2009)

6- Encouraging the use of the Express Regional Train (TER) for business trips.

7- Collective bicycle park in the head office parking.

8- Collective service vehicules.

Moreover awareness is encouraged by maintenance agents regarding the driving type and the GPL use whenever it is possible.
